October 9, 2010 Cell-phone-toting 17 year-old girl in a Honda Civic turned in front of me. This caused me to have to repaint the entire car to get it to match up with my 17 year old paint. Since I just had back surgery, I was in no condition to do it myself this time, so I took the car to MasterCraft in Ovilla, TX.
Unfortunately, it turned out that the owner of the shop would not do what he said he would do, repeatedly lied to me, and then destroyed several parts of the car that were not even damaged to begin with. I got the car back with a bolt driven through the AC condenser (worked fine even after the wreck, but no longer since they worked on it), two damaged sticks of windshield trim, and windows with no sealer applied during installation. Owner of the shop refused to replace any parts or complete the repairs. Quarter panels and doors that were laser straight before came out with radiused corners and relocated body lines. It is a shame that there are shops, supposedly highly rated, that will turn out work like that. If they had spent about two more hours with a sanding block, the really amateurish work could have been corrected. Now the car is back in my hands and both sides and the hood will have to be resanded and repainted. Then I am stuck with a car that has been painted at two different times, and will not match perfectly. If I wanted it like that, I would have simply installed a new fender and painted it. The tops of the fenders do not even match the sides of the fenders now. Their work is THAT BAD.
If you ever need a body shop, I can definitely tell you NOT to go to them.
It took seven months for them to finish the car. I got it back with trim falling off the rear window, damaged front window trim, totally filthy inside, the trunk paint looks like a kindergartener sprayed it with a blindfold on, passenger door could not be opened from inside or outside the car, key locks would not work, weatherstrip coming loose. The ground through the tops of two brand new NOS fenders and then did a lousy job attempting to repair it. When confronted with the quality of work, the owner would always act like a 4-year-old and walk away, refusing to even discuss the issues. I absolutely could not believe that they would return a car to its owner with that type of defects.
Once I can get back to working on it, both sides of the car, the hood and the tops of both front fenders will get stripped and redone correctly. And I paid them $9,000 for the priveledge of getting to do that. |
