Road Trip to Springfield
December 8-10, 2005
Pg. 4
OK, we now own the car.

First priority is to head to Springfield from the seller's suburban home to pick up every known fluid a car could ever need plus new fan belts, radiator cap, and get some air in the tires.

Tim and I pulled into an Autozone parking lot and immediately started sliding across the icy lot towards a Dodge truck.  The car just wasn't going to stop any time soon.  (Remember - we only have front brakes working, and not very well, either)  Luck was with us and I got the car to turn right before we would have smacked the truck.  WHEW!
So, THAT's WHY they put that DODGE sign on there!
We buy up everything we need and put some brake fluid in the master cylinder.  Not much help, but what the heck.  We made it this far, what's another 750 miles with no brakes?  DID I MENTION THE HEATER DOES NOT WORK?  AND THAT IT IS ABOUT 15 DEGREES OUTSIDE?
Convertibles are drafty enough when in their best condition.  This car had windows that did not roll up all the way to the top and DID I MENTION NO HEAT?  Luckily, having planned for everything, I had included a roll of aluminum duct tape.  After dealing with drafts for a very short time, I proceeded to tape up all the windows and the header of the top.  IT HELPED!
78,235 miles show on the odometer as we depart Springfield, Illinois towards home.
After placing a half a roll of the duct tape around the windows, we had it up to probably over 32 degrees inside!  What a difference 15 degrees can make!
We stopped at a Springfield Jiffy Lube to get some air in the tires. (The air hose we paid fifty cents to use at the Quick Mart was frozen solid)  They let us put the car inside long enough to see if there was anything obvious we could do to get the heater working.  We had to stick the digital camera under the dash to take a picture, then look at the picture to see where the wires went.  After seeing that there were actually wires going to the heater and the fuses looked OK, we gave up on anything easy.
Every time we got ready to get in the car and go, I would ask Tim for the keys and usually found them in the rear of the car.
